Can roof photographs help document an insurance claim?
The short answer
Photographs help by recording what was there and when, which is far better than describing it from memory. Dated images of the damage, the debris and any internal water are genuinely useful. They support a claim; they do not decide it. Cover, cause and policy terms remain matters for the insurer.
What this evidence cannot tell you
An image shows condition at a moment in time. It cannot show when damage occurred or prove which weather event caused it, and it cannot oblige an insurer to pay.
Related services
- Drone Roof InspectionsA drone roof inspection surveys a roof using a camera-equipped UAV, producing high-resolution photographs and video of every slope, chimney, valley and gutter without scaffolding, ladders or anyone setting foot on the roof. It is faster, safer and cheaper than traditional access, and produces evidence you can keep.
- Emergency Roof RepairsAn emergency roof repair makes a property safe and watertight quickly after storm damage, a sudden leak or falling slates. The first visit stops water entering and removes any danger to people below; the permanent repair follows once the roof is safe to work on.
What should you do next?
Ask your roofer for copies of the photographs taken during inspection, and keep them with your claim correspondence.
