How often should I have my roof inspected?
The short answer
For most homes, a look over the roof every couple of years is proportionate, with a check after any severe storm and before buying a property. Exposed, elevated or rural roofs, and older roofs with original fixings, justify annual attention. Regular records matter as much as frequency — they show what is changing.
What could this mean?
The value of periodic inspection is comparison. One set of photographs describes a roof; three sets over five years show whether it is deteriorating and how quickly.
Related services
- Drone Roof InspectionsA drone roof inspection surveys a roof using a camera-equipped UAV, producing high-resolution photographs and video of every slope, chimney, valley and gutter without scaffolding, ladders or anyone setting foot on the roof. It is faster, safer and cheaper than traditional access, and produces evidence you can keep.
- Roof RepairsA roof repair fixes a localised fault — slipped slates, cracked tiles, failed flashing, a leaking valley or a split flat-roof seam — without replacing the whole roof. Most Cumbrian domestic repairs are completed in a single visit once the true cause of the leak has been identified.
What should you do next?
Set a date each year, photograph each elevation from the same spots, and keep the images together so the comparison is easy.
