Can a roof inspection make a quotation more accurate?
The short answer
Usually, yes. A quotation produced from the pavement rests on assumptions; one produced after close inspection rests on what was actually seen. Some unknowns always remain — nobody can price battens they have not uncovered — but the fewer assumptions a quotation carries, the less likely it is to change once work begins.
What evidence should you look for?
A quotation issued without anyone having been closer than ground level.
- What it can mean
- The scope rests on assumptions that may not hold.
- What else could explain it
- An experienced roofer can assess some faults accurately from the ground or from imagery.

What this evidence cannot tell you
Inspection reduces uncertainty; it does not remove it. Concealed timber, underlay and fixing condition are only fully known once coverings come off.
Related services
- Drone Roof InspectionsA drone roof inspection surveys a roof using a camera-equipped UAV, producing high-resolution photographs and video of every slope, chimney, valley and gutter without scaffolding, ladders or anyone setting foot on the roof. It is faster, safer and cheaper than traditional access, and produces evidence you can keep.
- Roof RepairsA roof repair fixes a localised fault — slipped slates, cracked tiles, failed flashing, a leaking valley or a split flat-roof seam — without replacing the whole roof. Most Cumbrian domestic repairs are completed in a single visit once the true cause of the leak has been identified.
What should you do next?
Ask what the inspection covered, what it could not reach, and which parts of the price are still provisional.
